Childhood Ear Infections: What You Need to Know

Childhood Ear Infections

Your Kids’ Ears – Antibiotics, Tubes and the Facts

Childhood ear infections and other problems could be caused by antibiotics.

I was speaking with the head of a major Atlanta hospital the other day and I asked him about the amount of antibiotics consumed in this country for otitis media or what you know as childhood ear infections. He said that if childhood ear infections are the not the number one reason for antibiotics being prescribed in this country then they are certainly in the top three.

Here’s the kicker – the medical/pediatric community admits that antibiotics DO NOT WORK at what they are touted for, that is “curing” ear infections. On top of that the more often a child is given antibiotics the higher are his/her chances of having future ear infections.

And what about the incredible harm to a small child who is subjected to dose after dose of antibiotics? It is now common knowledge that at least 70 – 80% of the human immune system is in the gut in the form of so-called “friendly bacteria”. Antibiotics are like hand grenades – they do not pick and choose who they kill. Friend and foe alike are blown apart when the hand grenade is lobbed into a crowd. Similarly antibiotics wipe out good and bad bacteria.

That’s not all – friendly bacteria, or probiotics as they are referred to–are tied into our bodies’ ability to engage in proper gene sequencing and hormonal activities. And there’s more – the neurotransmitter serotonin, the so-called “happy” brain chemical, the one that powerful psych drugs like Prozac and Zoloft are supposed help, has 80% of its production in the gut. Yes you read that right, 80% of your serotonin is made in the gut. What do you think happens to a child’s serotonin production when his/her gut is hammered by round after round of antibiotics?

When antibiotics fail the next step is usually surgery in the form of a “tympanostomy” or having tubes surgically implanted into the child’s ear. If you have a child who was subjected to this you know that more often than not it does not work and a second or third set of tubes is deemed necessary.

The result of all this failed pharmacology and surgery are scarred ear drums and severe damage to the child’s body chemistry including the immune system and neurotransmitters.

The good news is that your child does not need to be subjected to any of this. Studies have shown conclusively that chiropractic adjustments are not only immeasurably safer than old fashioned antibiotics and tube surgery but far more effective, with chiropractic adjustments being shown to be better than antibiotics alone or in combination with tube surgery and with a much longer lasting positive effect.
